Positions and routine, with a coach
Ready when: First supervised sessions, at a range (b5) done.
What the coach teaches
Positions (standing rifle: feet parallel and shoulder-width, hips toward the target, eyes level, elbow on the hip), natural point of aim, a steady shot routine, calling the shot (say where it went before you look), wind and light, recording shots and analysing groups.
At home, safe only
Belly breathing and a still body, no weapon (b3) and Sight picture and follow-through, no weapon (b4); keeping a shot log on paper.
Ask the club
How often the range is open (once a week is too little for a shooter who wants to go far) and the competition programme.
What you can see from the side
The same position every time and a calm routine.
Self-check what the coach confirms
The coach compares groups across sessions.
Stop and get a coach when
Pain in the back, shoulder or neck.
