Throws and pins

Learnt at a club

Ready when: Breakfalls and first strikes, with a coach (b2) done.

Before you look for a club

What the coach teaches

Throws in families, low falls first (for example knee wheel and propping foot, then body drop and the big hip throw, big outer reap only once falls are solid); hold-downs (scarf hold, side four-corner, upper four-corner) and escapes, on both sides.

At home, safe only

None.

Ask the club

The age rules for locks and strangulations; partner matching.

What you can see from the side

A controlled throw with the partner held by the sleeve and helped to the mat.

Self-check what the coach confirms

The instructor passes the grade's techniques.

Stop and get a coach when

Any lock or strangle is applied to a child, or a hold presses the neck or face.
