Breakfalls and first strikes, with a coach
Ready when: Bowing, listening and respect (b1) done.
What the coach teaches
Basic breakfalls (backward, to the side, the forward roll fall), each from low to high; a few controlled punches and kicks in good balance on both sides, at soft foam pads or the air.
At home, safe only
Bowing, listening and respect (b1) and The stop hand and getting help (b3); on a soft mattress or thick mat only the lying-down back slap: lying on the back, head lifted, slap the mat with the forearm and palm, tensing the neck. No falls from sitting or standing at home.
Ask the club
The grading syllabus used and the training time between grades; how falls are built up from low to high.
What you can see from the side
The child lands safely, slaps the mat and the head never touches.
Self-check what the coach confirms
The instructor passes the breakfalls.
Stop and get a coach when
A hard fall or neck pain.
