Hurdle rhythm
Ready when: Sprint technique and start (i1) done and an adult who knows hurdles is present.
What the coach teaches
Lead-leg and trail-leg drills and walking over hurdles, then a steady rhythm over low hurdles with the same number of strides between each. The lead knee drives up, the trail leg bends; the stride pattern is learnt before the form.
At home, safe only
The rhythm run over sticks on the ground (Rhythm run over sticks (b6)). Keep heights low enough to run over without slowing; widen the gaps before raising anything.
Ask the club
The hurdle heights and spacing for the child's age; whether the hurdles tip forward if hit.
What you can see from the side
A regular rhythm over the hurdles, the same leg each time.
Self-check what the coach confirms
5 hurdles in a row with the same lead leg and the same count of steps.
Stop and get a coach when
The child trips on the hurdle or cannot keep the stride pattern.
