The Sports Portals Every Indian Family Should Know, and the Addresses That Are Not What They Look Like

Search for the School Games Federation of India and one of the first addresses that looks right, sgfi.in, belongs to a security services company. Another, sgfibharat.com, is a parked domain. The federation’s site is sgfi.org.in.

We hit this repeatedly while researching 59 sports: addresses that look like a federation’s and are not, two of which now serve gambling pages. This article lists the addresses that are real, as read in October 2026, and the ones to avoid.

Government

Khelo India: kheloindia.gov.in for the scheme; the dashboard for the state-wise list of Khelo India Centres and the scheme’s contact details; and the National Sports Repository System, the registration portal the scheme’s own note on becoming a Khelo India athlete points to. Note that a child does not apply to Khelo India directly: scouts pick from recognised competitions, as how Khelo India selection works explains.

Sports Authority of India: sportsauthorityofindia.gov.in, for scheme documents, the talent identification protocols and job advertisements.

DigiLocker: digilocker.gov.in, where federation certificates are now issued. Sports certificates in DigiLocker explains how to fetch one and why a fetch fails.

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports: the list of recognised national sports federations for 2026. It runs to five pages. A federation on it is recognised by the Government; one not on it has no entry on the page as read, which is not the same as being banned.

Delhi Development Authority: dda.gov.in/sports, where each complex publishes its coaching rates, the only large public fee table we found in any city.

School Games Federation of India: sgfi.org.in, with the rules index that sets out eligibility, documents and the age test.

Federation registration portals

These are the addresses where a child’s federation ID is made. Each answered when we checked on 8 October 2026 unless noted.

Three real federation sites show a “checking your browser” page to automated tools and sometimes to ordinary visitors: the Wushu Association of India (indiawushu.com), the Sepaktakraw Federation of India (sepaktakrawindia.com) and the Esports Federation of India (esfi.in). They are the right addresses; wait for the page to load. The Gymnastics Federation of India’s site did not answer at all on the day we checked.

Addresses that are not what they look like

Do not use these for the bodies they appear to name:

• sgfi.in (a security company) and sgfibharat.com (parked): not the School Games Federation
• gfi.org.in: a food institute, not the gymnastics federation
• wushuindia.in (a hospital) and wushuindia.org (a different body): not the Wushu Association of India
• bfi.org.in: not the Bowling Federation of India
• affi.co.in and affindia.org: not the flag football federation
• mmaindia.org: a private training business, not a federation
• teqballindia.com and indiandancesport.org: both now serve gambling pages

The last two once pointed at the right bodies, or were given as their addresses by reference sites. A domain can change hands. Check before you type a child’s Aadhaar number into any form.

How to check an address yourself

1. Government sites end in .gov.in or .nic.in. Nothing else is the Government.
2. Start from the Ministry’s recognised list and follow its link, or from the international federation’s page on its Indian member.
3. Match the address to paper. The state association’s circular or letterhead names the federation’s site. The circular is the document that governs anyway, as The sporting year explains.
4. Be suspicious of a form that asks for payment before it names the body, and of any sports site that shows betting content.
