Mark your space
Mark it once. Every card in table tennis starts from this space and adds what it needs.
The space
A table (a dining or study table with a line of books as a net also works), 2 m clear behind each end; or a wall at home.
Where it fits: terrace, hall, club, wall.
Mark in this order
- A net line
- The wide corners of the table
- A target (a paper square) on the far half
Chalk or tape is enough. Tick each mark as you make it.
Practice kit first
A bat for each player; spare balls; a bucket; paper targets; a net or a row of books.
Safety
Clear the floor of balls; mind the table edge; set up a table by the maker's instructions and lock its wheels; in relays everyone runs on the left; warm up the wrists, shoulders and legs; hydrate.
