Mark your space
Mark it once. Every card in netball starts from this space and adds what it needs.
The space
At home a wall and a clear 3 m by 3 m; in a park a marked area of 10 m by 10 m with four zones; a ring or bucket as the goal. A full court has three thirds and a goal circle; netball's key rules for defence are a distance of 0.9 m from the passer's first landing foot and a 3-second limit to pass.
Where it fits: lane (wall), terrace, park, school ground, indoor hall.
Mark in this order
- A throwing line
- A chalk target on the wall
- Four zones
- A goal circle
Chalk or tape is enough. Tick each mark as you make it.
Practice kit first
A size 4 or 5 netball (any soft ball at first), a bean bag, hoops, cones.
Trimmed nails; no jewellery.
Safety
Warm up before play; land with bent knees and the landing foot grounded; no contact; a big enough area so children do not crowd the ball.
