First shots, with a coach
Ready when: Range commands at home (b1) to Stance and the feel of release (b3) done; Stretch band shot cycle (b4) and Score an end (b5) help.
What the coach teaches
The parts of one shot (stance, nock the arrow, set the hook and grip, raise, draw, anchor, aim, release, follow-through), one at a time, then the whole shot at a short distance, about 6 m.
At home, safe only
Rehearse Range commands at home (b1) to Score an end (b5); never nock or draw a bow.
Ask the club
The draw weight for the child's age; the first target distance; the range commands they use; who is the range officer.
What you can see from the side
The child stands the same way each time; they wait for the command; they walk back only when told.
Self-check what the coach confirms
In one session the child shoots 3 arrows per end for 5 ends without any safety correction.
Stop and get a coach when
The child complains of pain, or any arrow is shot without a command.
Basic is done when they can say the commands in order and the instructor has seen them draw to the anchor and let down safely on three days.
