Squash · base setup

Mark your space

Mark it once. Every card in squash starts from this space and adds what it needs.

Fits: One room, Hall or court

The space

At home a blank wall 3 m wide and a clear floor 4 m deep; at a club a squash court (the full court is club only).

Where it fits: wall at home, school hall, club court.

Mark in this order

  • A line on the wall (chalk or tape) at about knee height for the "tin"
  • A target square above it
  • The "T" on the floor (two lines crossing in the middle)

Chalk or tape is enough. Tick each mark as you make it.

Practice kit first

A soft or low-bounce ball and a bat or a short racket; goggles on court; court shoes.

Safety

Nobody stands in front of the swing; eye protection and court shoes on court; a ball suited to the child's level; dry grips and balls; sweep the floor and keep spare balls and bottles off the court; stay behind the hitter; call "let" if blocked or a stray ball comes in; stop the rally at once when someone could be hit.
