Mark your space
Mark it once. Every card in lawn bowls starts from this space and adds what it needs.
The space
At home a lawn or carpet strip 6 to 10 m long; a "mat" (a cloth or a rolled towel) at one end; a "jack" (a small ball or a cone) at the other; two discs along the delivery line help a beginner. On a green: a rink with a mat and a ditch.
Where it fits: lane, terrace, indoor corridor (carpet), park lawn, a bowls club green.
Mark in this order
- The mat
- The jack mark
- A line of two discs
- A bank object as the line target if outdoors
Chalk or tape is enough. Tick each mark as you make it.
Practice kit first
A tennis ball with a lump of Blu-tack or tape on one side makes a "biased" bowl (delivered with the lump to the forehand or backhand side); soft balls only; real bowls at a club.
Safety
One player rolls per group at a time; no throwing bowls toward others unless soft balls are used; check the surface; set safe distances; flat-soled shoes.
