Lacrosse · base setup

Mark your space

Mark it once. Every card in lacrosse starts from this space and adds what it needs.

Fits: One room, Yard or lane, Terrace, Park, Ground or field

Seen from above, to scale: 3 m by 3 m.

The space

A wall and a clear 3 m by 3 m for wall ball; a field strip of 10 m by 10 m for scooping and passing. Start with small sides on a small field and grow both with age.

Where it fits: lane (wall ball), terrace, park, school ground.

Mark in this order

  • A throwing mark 2 m from the wall
  • Cones for a scooping course
  • A small goal made of cones

Chalk or tape is enough. Tick each mark as you make it.

Practice kit first

A lacrosse stick (or a short stick with a net), a rubber ball or a soft ball, goggles and gloves in the right version.

A tennis ball can replace the ball for wall work.

Safety

Protective gear depends on the version (men's has more contact); stick checks and contact rules differ by version; mouthguard.

For school and home play: plastic sticks and a soft (sponge) ball for beginners; no body contact, and never hit a player with a stick or the ball on purpose; 2 m clear of obstacles; playing areas never overlap; no child in goal: shots from outside a 5 m circle round an empty goal; never shoot while someone stands in the line; dry sticks and balls if damp.
