Kho-kho · base setup

Mark your space

Mark it once. Every card in kho-kho starts from this space and adds what it needs.

Fits: Yard or lane, Terrace, Park, Ground or field

The space

An open, flat, clean surface; a central lane about 3 m wide with eight squares and a pole at each end; at home a line of cones for the lane and a bottle as each pole. Court and team sizes by age: ask the school or club. A full team has 12 players, 9 of them on the court at a time.

Where it fits: lane, terrace (stance and sitting work), park, school ground, village ground.

Mark in this order

  • The central lane (a line of cones or chalk)
  • Two poles (bottles)
  • Cross lanes if the space allows

Chalk or tape is enough. Tick each mark as you make it.

Practice kit first

Cones, bottles, chalk; light footwear or bare feet on soft ground; no sharp objects.

Safety

Land on the thigh supported by the hands and then the abdomen after a dive; no pushing when giving kho; keep the surface clear.
