Is the space marked?
- A start line
- A straight lane
- A slalom of cones
- A loop
A start line; a stopping line; cones.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Stand in the V; take small steps forward, like a duck, knees bent.
- Bring the feet together and glide, arms forward, eyes on the end of the lane.
- Slide the brake skate forward, lift its toes and press the heel brake down while bending the front knee.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Short V steps into a glide.
- Knees bent, arms forward, eyes ahead.
- Heel stop: the brake skate slides forward, toes lifted.
- Press the heel brake down while bending the front knee.
How much: 10 glides and 10 stops
Look ahead, knees bent
Red light, green light
The rules
You call "red" and everyone stops; anyone still moving goes back to the start.
- Skaters start on the line
- On "green", skate forward; on "red", heel stop
- Anyone still rolling after "red" goes back to the start
- The first to cross the far line wins the round. 5 rounds
Fair play: A grown-up must glide on one foot between calls.
- Points
- 1 point for each clean stop on "red"; 3 points for winning a round.
- Fouls
- Back to the start: still moving on "red"; stopping by grabbing a person or the wall; starting before "green"
- Win
- The most points after 5 rounds.
- 4
- 8
- 12
Glide for 3 seconds and stop on the line 5 times.
End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
Well played.
