- Two poles (bottles)
- Cross lanes if the space allows
Cones for a straight course and two poles 10 m apart.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Run from one pole to the other.
- At the pole, drop low and reach a hand to it as you turn tight round it.
- Jog in a space; when the chaser comes close, plant a foot and change direction suddenly.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Pole to pole: run the whole court and turn tight round each pole, low.
- A shuttle relay with a pole turn.
- Dodge a gentle chaser with sudden changes of direction.
How much: 5 runs and 3 dodging rounds
Turn tight round the pole
Circle kho
The rules
Chasers crouch in a ring facing alternate ways; one chases a runner round the outside and passes the chase with kho.
- Two or three chasers crouch in a small ring, facing in and out in turn
- One chaser chases the runner round the outside of the ring, one way only
- To change direction, the chaser gives kho to a sitter, who chases the other way
- 1 minute per runner
Fair play: A grown-up runner walks quickly instead of running.
- Points
- The runner scores 1 point for every 10 seconds not touched; the chasers score 3 points for a touch.
- Fouls
- The runner scores 2 points: the chaser turns back without giving kho; a push when tagging or giving kho; cutting through the ring
- Win
- The most points after everyone has been the runner.
- 2
- 4
- 6
5 pole-to-pole runs with tight turns and no fall.
End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
Well played.
