- Check the space and the kit.
- Get your child's attention first.

Is the space marked?
A tape measure; a stopwatch.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Say the three scoring parts aloud and give an example of each: clean stances, a high jump, strong spirit.
- Standing broad jump: feet together, swing the arms and jump forward as far as you can; land and hold; measure from the line to the back of the heels.
- 30 m run: lean forward, push off and run to the line; time it.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Say the three parts of taolu scoring: quality of movement, degree of difficulty, overall performance.
- Do the standing broad jump.
- Do a 30 m run.
- Write the results; repeat monthly.
How much: 3 jumps and 2 runs
Bend the knees and land soft
Beat your number
The rules
Compare this month's best jump and run with last month's.
- Read last month's numbers
- Take 3 jumps and 2 runs; keep the best of each
- Write them down beside last month's
Fair play: Measure every jump the same way.
- Points
- 1 point for each result better than last month; 1 point for saying the three scoring parts.
- Fouls
- That try does not count: a step before the jump; a landing that falls back; a start before "go"
- Win
- Beat last month.
- 1
- 2
- 3
The 3 scoring parts said from memory and 2 numbers recorded.
End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
