Is the space marked?
A soft cone or plate to rest the ball on; a mat as a target.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- The holder lifts the plate about 1 m from the net, arm still and to the side.
- Toss the ball gently up from the plate.
- As it falls, swing the leg and hit the top of the ball down onto the mat.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Smash the ball down over the net with the inside or the laces as it falls from a gentle toss.
- 10 smashes, then swap.
- Then toss, bounce, smash.
How much: 10 smashes each, 2 rounds
Plate up, hit the top
Hit the mat
The rules
The first player to smash onto the mat 5 times wins.
- The holder tosses; the smasher smashes
- Count the hits on the mat
- Rotate after 10 smashes
Fair play: The holder's arm is always to the side, never above the ball.
- Points
- 1 point for each smash on the mat.
- Fouls
- No point, and stop for a moment: a kick near the holder's hand; hitting the ball before it starts to fall; the leg touching the net or rope
- Win
- The first to 5 points.
- 1
- 3
- 5
5 of 10 smashes on the target half.
End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
