Is the space marked?
- A start line
- A straight lane
- A slalom of cones
- A loop
A loop.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Skate forward slowly, then turn the hips and shoulders and step round to roll backward.
- Turn back to forward the same way.
- Lift one skate and glide on the other for a count of 5.
- Bend the knees deeply and skate a stretch in a crouch.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Change from forward to backward and back while moving.
- Glide on one skate for 5 seconds on each foot.
- Skate a loop in a low crouch.
How much: 3 laps
Turn on both wheels
Call and move
The rules
You call "change", "one foot" or "low"; the skater does it straight away.
- The skater rolls round the loop
- Call a move every few seconds
- 12 calls
Fair play: A grown-up does each move on the weaker side.
- Points
- 1 point for each call done straight away without a stop or a fall.
- Fouls
- No point for that call: stopping to change direction; putting the other foot down before 5 in a one-foot glide; standing up during "low"
- Win
- Beat your best from 12 calls.
- 5

End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
Well played.
