Is the space marked?
- A throwing line
- A chalk target on the wall
- A goal area line
- A goal
A goal, a size 1 soft ball; a defender (a tall cone or post at first).
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Take your steps toward the goal and jump off the last one, the ball back, elbow up.
- Throw at the top of the jump and land on both feet.
- Fake: step strongly toward one side of the post, then push off and go past the other side.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Steps into a jump shot, landing on both feet.
- A fake step one way and accelerate the other way past the post, then shoot.
- A dribble feint that suddenly changes direction.
- Then with a passive defender, then an active one.
How much: 10 shots, 3 rounds
Steps first, then throw
Beat the defender
The rules
One-on-one against a defender, then shoot.
- The attacker gets the ball from you 9 m from goal
- The defender starts between them and the goal, passive at first
- The attacker fakes past and shoots from outside the goal area
- 5 attacks, then swap
Fair play: A grown-up defender keeps the hands behind the back.
- Points
- 1 goal for a shot that scores; 1 bonus point when the attacker got past with a fake.
- Fouls
- The attack ends with no points: more than three steps; landing inside the goal area before letting go of the ball; pushing or holding by either player
- Win
- The most points after everyone has attacked 5 times.
- 2
- 4
- 7
5 of 10 jump shots on target.
End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
Well played.
