- Check the space and the kit.
- Get your child's attention first.
- Show it from two sides.
- Say one thing only.
- End on one that works.
Put the phone down where you can see it. Tap Next with your thumb, or use the arrow keys.
Is the space marked?
- A start spot
- A mat edge
- Chalk marks for hands and feet
Shoes, jewellery and watches off; hair tied back.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Sit facing your partner, feet together, hold hands and both lean back until the arms are straight: counter tension.
- Stand back to back and lean into each other: counter balance.
- Agree the calls first: "up" to start, "down" to stop at once.
- Show a low balance: the base on hands and knees, the top places hands only on the base's shoulders and hips.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Counter tension: sit facing, feet together, hold hands and lean back until the arms are straight; then stand and do the same.
- Counter balance: back to back, then palm to palm.
- Low balances: weight only on the base's hips and shoulders, never the middle of the back.
- Hold each for 3 seconds.
How much: 3 balances, 3 times each
Hips and shoulders only
Statue count
The rules
On a clap, make a pair statue with only 4 feet and 2 hands on the floor, then only 2 feet and 2 hands.
- Clap and call the number of feet and hands allowed on the floor
- The pair builds a statue that touches the floor only that much
- Hold for 3 seconds; then "down" and come apart calmly
- 6 claps
Fair play: A pair with a younger child builds 4 feet and 2 hands only.
- Points
- 2 points for each statue held 3 seconds; 1 point for coming down calmly on "down".
- Fouls
- The statue scores nothing: weight on the middle of the back; jumping down instead of climbing down; not stopping straight away on "down"
- Win
- The pair beats its best from 6 claps.
- 6
- 12
- 18
3 different balances, each held 3 seconds, built and taken down calmly.
End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
Well played.
