A score card, a pencil.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Stand to the side of and behind a player who is about to putt, and stay still and quiet.
- Show a score card: one column per player, one row per hole.
- After a hole, say your strokes aloud and write them in.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Where to stand: behind the line, out of the swing.
- Keep quiet when others swing.
- Replace divots and keep up with the group.
- Keep each other's score.
How much: 5 holes

The rules
The children design a small putting course and play it, keeping each other's score.
- Design 5 holes round the room or lawn: a mug, a box, a gap between books
- Take turns to putt; the player furthest from the hole goes first
- Each player keeps another player's score
- Add up after 5 holes
Fair play: A grown-up putts with one hand.
- Points
- 1 point for each stroke; the lowest total is best.
- Fouls
- Add 1 penalty point: talking or moving while someone putts; standing in front of the player; a wrong score written down
- Win
- The lowest total after 5 holes.
- 20
- 15
- 11
The child records a score for each hole and names 3 etiquette rules.
End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
Well played.
