- Check the space and the kit.
- Get your child's attention first.
- Show it from two sides.
- Say one thing only.
- End on one that works.
Put the phone down where you can see it. Tap Next with your thumb, or use the arrow keys.
Is the space marked?
An empty floor; a mirror if available.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Take the guard stance.
- Slip: turn the shoulders a little and bend slightly at the knees so the head moves a hand's width to one side, then back.
- Duck: bend the knees, back straight, eyes forward, then rise.
- Step aside: the foot on that side steps out and the other follows.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- In the guard: 10 slips, left and right.
- 10 ducks.
- 10 steps aside, left and right.
- Back to the guard after every move.
How much: 10 of each move, 3 rounds
Bend the knees, eyes up
Call and move
The rules
You call "left", "right", "duck" or "step"; a point for the right move done within a second, back in the guard.
- The child stands in the guard
- Call a move
- The child does it and is back in the guard before you can say "one"
- 20 calls
Fair play: A younger child gets two seconds.
- Points
- 1 point for each right move, back in the guard within a second.
- Fouls
- No point for that call: bending at the waist; the hands drop; the wrong move; too slow
- Win
- More points after 20 calls each.
- 10
- 14
- 18
8 of 10 calls answered with the right move and the guard up.
End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
Well played.
