- Check the space and the kit.
- Get your child's attention first.
- Show it from two sides.
- Say one thing only.
- End on one that works.
Put the phone down where you can see it. Tap Next with your thumb, or use the arrow keys.
Is the space marked?
An empty strip of floor about 4 m long; no gloves.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Stand facing your child, both in the guard stance, one arm's length apart.
- Step forward, back and sideways slowly; your child copies like a mirror.
- Stop suddenly. You should both still be one arm's length apart.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Face each other one arm's length apart, both in the guard.
- The leader steps; the follower copies like a mirror.
- Keep the gap the same.
- 1 minute, then swap leader.
How much: 4 rounds of 1 minute each way, with no touching and no punches
Feet never cross
Freeze
The rules
When the leader stops, the follower must stop at the same moment and still be one arm's length away.
- The leader moves for a few seconds, then freezes
- The follower freezes too
- The follower stretches out an arm: the fingertips should just not reach the leader
- 10 freezes, then swap
Fair play: A grown-up leader moves slowly.
- Points
- 1 point for each freeze at the same moment, at the right distance.
- Fouls
- No point for that freeze: the feet cross; closer than one arm, or farther than two; the guard drops; any touch
- Win
- More points after 10 freezes each.
- 5
- 7
- 9
5 freezes in a row at one arm's length.
End on one that works. If it was hard today, finish with the easier version.
Well played.
