Is the space marked?
- A throwing or shooting spot 2 m from the wall or hoop
- Chalk lines for the lines game
- Two cones 5 m apart for dribbling
A hoop, the free-throw line, a ball.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Take the defensive stance between the attacker and the basket, half an arm away.
- As the attacker dribbles, slide to stay in front.
- If they get past, turn and sprint back to get between them and the basket again.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- 1 against 1 from the free-throw line.
- One dribble per turn with the ball.
- If the attacker gets past, they stop and wait while the child sprints back between them and the basket.
- 8 turns, then swap.
How much: 8 turns each, 3 rounds
Get between ball and basket
Stop the drive

Fair play: A grown-up attacker walks.

- Fouls
- the defender touches, pushes or hits the arm: 1 point to the attacker; the attacker travels or runs into the defender: 1 point to the defender
- Win
- More points after both have defended.
- 2
- 4
- 6
