Setup · 1 minute

Is the space marked?

  • A throwing or shooting spot 2 m from the wall or hoop
  • Chalk lines for the lines game
  • Two cones 5 m apart for dribbling

One ball per pair, a lane.

Warm up · 3 minutes

Three minutes to get warm.

Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.

3:00
Show it · 1 minute
  1. Dribble with the ball on the side away from your child.
  2. Keep your body between your child and the ball; the free arm is bent in front for balance, not pushing.
  3. Dribble hard twice ("pound"), then push the ball off one hand to your child, fingers pointing at them.

Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.

The skill · 8 minutes
  1. 30 seconds of dribbling while the partner leans lightly on the shoulder and arm, then swap.
  2. Pound and pass: two hard dribbles, then a one-hand pass, for one minute.
  3. 3 rounds.

How much: 30 seconds each of contact dribbling and one minute of pound and pass, 3 rounds

Keep the ball away from the defender

Contact stations

The rules

Pairs race through three contact stations against the clock.

  1. Set three stations 5 m apart
  2. Station 1: 10 dribbles while the partner leans lightly
  3. Station 2: 5 pound-and-pass, each way
  4. Station 3: dribble to the end while the partner bumps lightly
  5. Swap roles and come back. Time the whole thing

Fair play: A bigger partner leans more lightly.

Points
The time in seconds; fewer is better.
Fouls
5 seconds added: the ball is lost or stolen; the dribbler pushes with the free arm; the partner hits the ball or grabs
