- Check the space and the kit.
- Get your child's attention first.
- Show it from two sides.
- Say one thing only.
- End on one that works.
Put the phone down where you can see it. Tap Next with your thumb, or use the arrow keys.
Is the space marked?
- The start line
- A turning cone at 10 m and at 15 m
- A throwing line well behind the landing area
- Chalk or tape rows for scoring jumps and throws (1, 2, 3 points)
A skipping rope.
Three minutes to get warm.
Easy jogging on the spot, then arms and legs. How to warm up well is explained at workonfitness.com.
- Hold the handles at hip height with the rope behind your heels.
- Turn the rope over your head with small circles of the wrists, not the whole arms.
- As it reaches your feet, jump on both feet, just high enough to clear it.
- Keep the jumps small and the landings light.
Show it once from the front and once from the side, slowly. Then let your child try.
- Stand ready, the rope behind the heels.
- On "Go", jump the rope as many times as you can in 15 seconds.
- Count every jump aloud.
- Rest, then a second try. That is one round.
How much: 2 tries of 15 seconds, 5 rounds
Small jumps, light feet
Rope race
The rules
Two children each count jumps in 15 seconds and compare their best of two.
- One player skips for 15 seconds while the other counts
- Swap
- Each player has 2 tries; the best one counts
Fair play: A younger child skips for 20 seconds.
- Points
- 1 point for each jump over the rope in 15 seconds.
- Fouls
- That jump does not count: a double bounce between turns of the rope; stepping over the rope instead of jumping it; the rope catches the feet: start it again, and the clock keeps running
- Win
- The higher best score.
